Credits from Other Colleges and Universities
In general, all college-level coursework completed with a grade of C- (1.7 on a 4.0 scale) or higher at an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency, or at an institution recognized by the foreign country's minister or head of education, will transfer and be included on the University of Dayton transcript.
No credit will be granted for coursework completed with a grade below C-. Acceptance of transfer credit does not guarantee applicability to a student's degree requirements. The determination of how transfer credit applies toward degree requirements is made by the appropriate academic unit in accordance with University policies and degree requirements.
Developmental, remedial, and other non-college-level coursework is not eligible for transfer credit.
Transfer courses and credit hours accepted by the University will be recorded on the student's academic record. Grades earned at other institutions are not included in the University of Dayton grade point average.
Transfer credit from other institutions that does not have a direct University of Dayton course equivalent is typically assigned the appropriate departmental prefix and a course number ending in "XX" (e.g., BIO 1XX, HST 2XX) to reflect general subject-area credit. The course title will be "Accepted Transfer Credit."
Official transcripts must be sent directly to the University of Dayton by the issuing institution. Electronic transcripts may be sent to transcripts@udayton.edu, or students may select the University of Dayton through their institution's electronic transcript request system.
If requesting transcripts by mail, have the official transcript sent to:

Additional documentation may be required for certain courses or programs. Students who completed coursework at institutions outside the United States must also submit a course-by-course evaluation from The Evaluation Company or another evaluation service approved by the University.
Study Abroad Transfer Credit
The University of Dayton encourages students to pursue international educational opportunities through approved Education Abroad & Away programs. Students participating in University-approved semester, summer, faculty-led, exchange, or third-party programs must complete the required pre-approval process before participating to ensure coursework can be evaluated for transfer credit and degree applicability.
Coursework completed through approved Education Abroad & Away programs is evaluated as transfer credit. Students must earn the equivalent of a U.S. grade of C- or higher for coursework to be eligible for transfer. Accepted transfer credit will be posted to the student's academic record upon receipt of an official transcript from the host institution or approved program provider. Transfer grades are not included in the University of Dayton cumulative grade point average.
Students should work with their academic advisor and the Education Abroad & Away Office before departure to obtain course approvals. Previously evaluated courses are available through the Education Abroad & Away Course Catalog; however, the catalog is intended as a planning resource and does not include every course offered by partner institutions.
Coursework completed through programs that have not been approved through the University's Education Abroad & Away process is not guaranteed to be eligible for transfer credit or to satisfy degree requirements. Students who pursue international study outside of the University's established approval process assume the risk that coursework may not transfer.
Official transcripts should be sent to the Education Abroad & Away Office in accordance with the instructions provided for the approved program. Additional information regarding program approval, course authorization, and transcript submission is available through the Education Abroad & Away Office.
Transfer after Enrollment (Guest Student/Transient Student Coursework)
The University of Dayton encourages matriculated students to take advantage of educational opportunities available at other institutions when appropriate. To ensure that coursework will transfer and apply toward degree requirements as intended, students must obtain approval from their academic unit before enrolling in coursework at another institution.
Students should use the University's credit evaluation resources or Transferology to identify previously evaluated courses. These resources are intended to assist with course selection but do not replace the required pre-approval process. Students must obtain approval through their academic unit using the appropriate transfer credit approval process, including for courses that have been previously evaluated for transfer.
Students who wish to enroll in coursework that has not previously been evaluated for transfer should submit the required pre-approval request before registering. Students who complete coursework at another institution without obtaining prior approval are not guaranteed that the coursework will transfer to the University of Dayton or apply toward their degree requirements.
Students should also be aware that certain University requirements, including designated Common Academic Program (CAP) components and residency requirements, must be completed at the University of Dayton. Students should consult their academic advisor regarding the applicability of transfer coursework toward their degree requirements.
After completing approved coursework, students must request that an official transcript be sent directly to the University of Dayton by the issuing institution for transfer credit to be posted.
Students who intend to use transient or guest coursework to satisfy degree requirements are responsible for ensuring that an official transcript is received by the University of Dayton by the published transcript deadline for their intended graduation term. If the official transcript is not received by the deadline, degree conferral may be delayed until the next eligible graduation period.
Students receiving U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits are encouraged to consult with the Military and Veteran Programs and Services Office before enrolling in coursework at another institution to ensure compliance with applicable benefit and certification requirements.
